About Ka ʻOhā
About Us
Ka ʻOhā is the virtual and blended division of Kanu o ka `Āina that serves students K-12 and has various ‘ohana groups across mutliple islands. Utilizing an ʻohana-centered learning instructional model, we develop strong pilina (relationships) with ʻohana to support holistic and individualized place-based learning.
We allow for Kanu o ka `Āina to stretch beyond physical boundaries to increase the reach of our educational philosophy which is to
Kūlia i ka nu‘u, or strive for the highest.

Our Mission
As the online program at Kanu o ka ‘Āina, our mission is Kūlia i ka nu‘u, or strive for the highest. A philosophy of excellence guides Kanu as we collectively design, implement and continuously evaluate a quality, culturally-driven, intergenerational Hawaiian model of education with Aloha.
Our Vision
As a community-based learning ‘ohana, our vision at Kanu is being steadfast in cultivating compassionate, empowered, highly competent learners of all ages who are grounded in Native Hawaiian culture and language.
E ʻAUAMO KĀKOU I KE KULEANA (Core Values)
Our collective commitment to keep Hawaiʻi’s native language and culture alive includes perpetuating the values of our hulu kūpuna codified in countless ʻŌlelo Noʻeau or Wise Proverbs. Four of these ʻŌlelo Noʻeau make up Kanu o ka ʻĀina’s core values or school-wide behavioral expectations. These proverbs were chosen to provide a safe, loving, positive and orderly environment conducive to the academic, social and character development of haumāna, kumu and our extended learning ʻohana.
- ALOHA kekahi i kekahi - Love one another
- MĀLAMA i kou kuleana - Take care of your responsibilities.
- KŌKUA aku, kōkua mai - Give help, receive help.
- MAHALO i ka mea loaʻa - Be thankful for what we have.
Our Program
Our Ka ʻOhā program offers a multi-faceted approached to educating keiki. We weave a holistic, supportive program for haumāna (students) in grades K-12.
