Testing Details
Kanu o ka ʻĀina New Century Public Charter School participates in STAR and Smart Balanced testing.
These assessments are used to drive instruction and foster student academic growth. High School students take
End of Course Exams.
STAR Testing
The STAR Assessment is school-based tool used to measure growth in students grade 2-12. This computer-based test is adaptive and taken 3 times per year.

Smarter Balanced Testing
(Hawaii State Assessment)
All Kanu o ka ʻĀina students in grades 3-8 and 11 take the Smarter Balanced Test, the Hawaii State Assessment, in spring of each school year. Students in grades 5 and 8 take the HSA Science Exam as well.

End of Course Exams
All state of Hawaii high school students enrolled in the Algebra I, Algebra II, Biology I, and/or U.S. History courses will take the End of Course exam for each course in which they are enrolled during the current school year.
Students who wish to receive credit for Algebra in 8th grade must pass the Algebra End of Course exam.
